About Footprints Through Literacy

The philosophy of Footprints through Literacy builds upon the concept of people writing to read and reading to write as a foundation to provide effective communication;  to inspire; to inform; to influence; and to entertain anyone anywhere at anytime about anything.

Footprints through Literacy (FtL) is a non-profit (501c3 pending).
We provide classes K-12 in world and US history, science with labs, literacy, logic, math, STEAM, leadership and project management, debate, urban homesteading, community service learning, and other electives. Our program incorporates and focuses on the development and enhancement of skills and strategies necessary for accomplishing our learning goals. We specifically use critical thinking and executive functioning skills, along with social emotional learning, in all of our lessons to ensure that the learning material can be APPLIED to their everyday life. We provide research-proven, holistic, self-directed, game and project-based learning methodology to create and build confidence while instilling a lifelong love for learning.  We specialize in focusing on diversity.. We chose books, projects, and other materials to discover and enhance our students' interests. We explore the SEL concepts of social and self-awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, and relationship skills using several mini projects. We use a project-based, holistic, non-Common Core, spiral skill-building approach to teach. The core subjects are taught together to provide students the opportunity to make seamless connections that are required for performing and applying higher-level thinking and knowledge regarding reading, writing, and STEAM. To ensure that authentic learning takes place, which allows the acquisition, adoption, and adaptation of new information, we have created assignments and projects that encourage in-depth, comprehensive, independent, and creative educational experiences.
Because research shows a curriculum of learning how to debate evidence of the value of this curriculum, by these very students having been taught how to be critical thinkers and how to research facts to make your points, to validate your opinions and to influence others.

Literacy is more than just reading.
It is an individual’s ability to read, write, speak, compute and solve problems.

This means reading labels on prescription bottles and understanding the directions on how much to take. This includes balancing a checkbook, basic math, comprehension and communicating in English.

In the home, literacy skills promote close family interactions,
informed decision-making and lifelong learning. In school, strong literacy skills result in more capable students and higher levels of achievement.
Is to ultimately, help create healthy communities and families to have literacy at their core.   We can do this by leading your child down the path toward academic excellence.  And helping our students develop into informed and engaged scholars who are better equipped to recognize and overcome civic, social, racial, and economic challenges.
Every session is full of fun, teacher-led book activities and discussions, independent reading practice, and direct instruction in phonics skills.  Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions that you may have.
